Dive sistes in Gran Canaria is one of Spain’s Canary Islands, off northwestern Africa. The Island is the third largest island in the archipelago but accounts for almost half the population. In 2004 UNESCO finally approve Gran Canaria as a World Biosphere Reserve signaling this Canary Island as a really special place because of its diversity - above and below sea level. There are about 15 marine species only found in the Canary Islands, and six Endangered Species (on the IUCN Red List) The world famous El Cabron Marine Reserve is located in Aringa in the subtropical waters of Gran Canaria. Divers will be amazed at the diversity of marine life and its density which range from butterflyfish to angel sharks, red parrotfish and nudibranchs! There is a mixture of species from the Mediterranean, Atlantic and from the Caribbean and the abundance of sea grass beds create a safe habitat for fish nurseries. There are also several endangered and critically endangered species here that can sometimes be spotted such as the giant devil ray, dusky and island groupers, loggerhead turtle and butterfly ray. The ocean currents have been kind to Gran Canaria and have dictated that the climate is mild and pleasant almost all year round. Sea temperatures around Gran Canaria vary between 18ºC and 25ºC depending on the season and the depth of the water..
