The uniqueness and richness of the caves along the Puerto del Carmen cliff are so great that Europe has declared it a “Special Conservation Site” within the Natura 2000 Network.
This cave is teeming with shrimp, which are hiding here from groupers. Near the entrance of the cave divers can spot a patch of orange coral. The dive begins at the Playa Chica stairs or can be done by boat. At the depth of 25-30m/82-98ft the Atlantic damselfish begins to give way to fairy basslet and sea slugs which can be spotted at this depth. The sea slugs have an amazing shape and intense violet color. Dusky groupers lie in wait for the shrimp inside the dark cave and do not hesitate to pounce on them when they become visible by the light of our flashlights.
