Shark Island is a twin rock outcrop that consists of a gradually sloping reef. Generally, each side of the island features a different array of marine life. The rock boulders are covered by nice soft corals and gorgonians; at 20m/65ft depth there is a nice swim-through. There is occasionally a strong current and it gives a good chance for drift diving. Both novice and experienced divers can enjoy this site.The best season to dive here is from May to September. The water temperatures range between 26-30C/79-86F. The average air temperature varies from 25-33C/77-91F. South side of the island is the deepest, with depths ranging from 28m/91ft and upward. It features beautiful boulder formations occupied by leopard and black tip reef sharks and barracuda. While the northern side offers shallow coral gardens at around 12m/39ft depth. On the East side – the reef is covered with soft and brain corals, various gorgonians and sponges. Among the corals divers will find snappers, angelfish, blue spotted stingrays, anemone fish and other reef fish. The west side offers soft and hard coral formations, that became a shelter to moray eels, nudibranchs, leopard shark and other fish. Occasionally a seasonal whale shark can be seen feeding in these waters.
