Stingray Station is the most western Erg on the Alternatives. There are plenty of small ergs which are covered in fish life. The shelf drops off quickly to about 25 meters. Dive can be made along the drop off the edge and you are likely to see larger fish in the deep blue. In the north-western part of the Alternatives there is a large roughly quadrangular outcrop known as Stingray Station. It gets its name because many Blue Spotted Stingrays gather here particularly in the spring months. It can be dived both as a mooring dive and as a drift dive and is very popular with snorkellers due to the shelter the reef provides and the shallowness of the surrounding water.
