Brother Islands scuba dive sites in Egypt

Brother Islands (El Akhawein) is a well-protected marine park with healthy reefs, an abundance of marine life and steep slopes formed by volcanic eruptions. One of the best dive areas in the whole Red Sea. Large pelagics are routinely seen, which means dives are never boring.

Brothers Islands are quite isolated, therefore marine life and corals can thrive undisturbed here.
The islands rise up as two enormous pillars from the surrounding sea floor, more than a mile beneath them. Because of this geology, they offer some of the most dramatic wall diving in the Red Sea.
Two islands are the Brig Brother and the Small Brother. Wreck divers will enjoy the Big Brother where two wrecks, the Numidia and the Aida are positioned on its sloping sides. The wreck starts at about 100 feet/30 meters, though the engine is still visible right at the surface. The Numidia offers some penetration along its decks and gangways, as well as into the hold. It starts at 30 feet/10 meters, but descends all the way down to 230 feet/70 meters; so recreational divers must take care to stay in the shallower end of the wreck. Both wrecks are in relatively poor condition. The Brothers have become famous for encounters with schooling hammerheads, oceanic whitetip sharks, and thresher sharks.
The Small Brother has a beautiful sloping reef where divers can encounter Silvertip and Grey reef sharks at about 40 meters deep. Black corals, barracuda, tuna, dogtooth, snappers, unicorns, surgeonfish and massive gorgonian fans are other highlights. The island is literally covered with soft and hard coral, gorgonian fans, sponges, black corals, and anemones.
With turtles on Big and manta on Little, the Brothers is an oasis in the midst of so much sea.
Currents can get quite strong in the area, and unpredictable wind can make waters choppy, therefore this is recommended for experienced divers. Moreover, these islands are in an isolated location, and divers should always be sure to go out with an experienced crew that really knows the area and how to get through a scuba dive there safely.
Divers should also plan carefully the best time to dive in the area. The winds are often weakest during a full moon, and if you can stand the heat, the months of June, July and August are the calmest.
