The smallest atoll of the Maldives offers great diving along channels, submerged pinnacles, walls and overhangs for both beginners and advanced divers. These sites are home to reef sharks like grey reef and white tip reef sharks and hammerheads.
Atoll is more isolated and less-developed in terms of tourist infrastructure that’s a good thing for divers who can enjoy unspoiled marine life.
One of the highlights is Fotteyo Falhu – the largest unbroken barrier reef in the Maldives (50 km long).
Unlike many other atolls of Maldives, Vaavu mainly consists of kandus (channels), not pinnacles. That makes some dive sites particularly exciting. For example, Fotteyo Kandu, a channel with many caves and large overhangs. Or Fushi Kandu that’s great for diving with reef sharks.
Besides reef sharks and manta rays, divers can also expect to spot Napoleon wrasses, tuna, giant trevallies, Tahitian stingrays, titan triggerfish, black-blotched stingrays, lunar fusiliers, turtles, grouper, moray eels, and barracuda.
